Source:The Ghanaian Times
A fierce gun battle was encountered at the old palace of the Sunyanimanhene of the Bono region. The clash was between private security guards of the Queen mother of SUNYANI,Nana Asor Dua Brayie II,and the Sunyanimanhene,Okugyeamansan Boahen Korkor III on Monday dawn(16th June,2025).An analysis of the news 📰 is as follows:
1. Does the image accurately represent the headline’s message?
Partly. The headline highlights active conflict (“gunfire”), while the image of people in mourning clothes reflects the aftermath — grief and loss — rather than the event itself.A more precise image could have been used . Example;image of the police or people at clash.
2. What emotions does the image evoke?
Sadness, grief, tension, and fear. It shows the human impact of the conflict. The image indicates loss of a person.
3. Is the image manipulated or biased?
The image is not manipulated but frames the story in another direction by focusing on the emotional aftermath, leading the reader to sympathize with the victims rather than think about the causes of the conflict.
4. How does composition affect storytelling?
By focusing on people mourning using the image,(without showing violence or destruction), the composition directs attention to the human cost. Framing and lighting likely enhance this emotional tone.
5. Does the image add depth to the story or simply reinforce the headline?
It adds depth by showing the real-world consequences on the community, helping readers connect emotionally with the story.
6. Would a different image change the reader’s perception of the news?
Yes. A photo of active conflict (e.g., armed men, police, destroyed property) would make the reader think more about the violence, while this image highlights loss and not the real clash
7. How does the image compare to others covering the story?
8. Is the image culturally or politically significant?
Yes. Mourning cloths are a culturally significant symbol in Ghana, showing respect for the dead. Using this image connects the story to local customs but may also focus attention more on grief than on solutions or political dimensions.
U.S DEFENCE COMPANIES WOO EUROPEAN ALLIES AT PARIS AIRSHOW
Source:The Reuters -18th June ,2025
At this year’s Paris Airshow, some of the biggest U.S. defence companies gathered to display their latest military technology to European allies. The event drew top American companies such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing, and Anduril, all hoping to secure new deals as defence spending continues to rise across Europe.
Among the weapons and systems on display were drones, advanced missiles, fighter jets, and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools. U.S lawmakers and senior military officials were also present, using the airshow as an opportunity to strengthen defence ties with European partners.
The push for more military cooperation comes at a time when many European nations are increasing their defence budgets in response to growing global tensions, especially since the war in Ukraine began. European governments are now looking to purchase more high-technological weapons to modernise their forces.
However, while many European countries are eager to work with U.S defence companies, they also want to make sure that their own defence industries continue to grow. Government leaders have stressed the need to find a balance — making use of American technology while protecting their national industries and maintaining a certain level of independence in their defence capabilities.
In recent weeks, several major contracts have been signed between U.S companies and European forces. These include deals for fighter jets, drones, and missile systems, showing that military cooperation between the United States and Europe is growing stronger by the day.
Experts in the industry believe that the trend will continue, with more partnerships likely to be announced at future international defence shows.
