June 20, 2025 | 1-minute readA
devastating fire swept through an industrial area in Tema, reducing over 500 wooden structures to ashes and displacing approximately 700 residents, including children. The inferno, which occurred behind Ferro Fabrik Limited, left victims reeling as they sifted through the debris of their lost homes and belongings.
Miraculously, no casualties were reported, though the cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), which began its probe following the outbreak. The fire was reported at 11:52 PM via a distress call to the GNFS, prompting an immediate response.
Chief Fire Officer’s early Thursday visit to the scene revealed displaced families, including nursing mothers, assessing their losses and gathering remnants to rebuild.
The affected area, located near the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and Sentuo Oil Refinery (SOR), underscores the vulnerability of the community’s wooden housing.
Divisional Officer II Ebenezer Yenzu, Tema Regional Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, confirmed the service’s ongoing efforts to determine the fire’s origin. As investigations continue, the focus shifts to supporting the displaced and preventing future incidents.
